The Students by prior arrangement with the College of Law, will be able to sit with advisors who will be dispensing advice, and again, if needed will help with research. Street law in conjunction with College of Law The Street Law program will be run in conjunction with College Law. The program uses a wide variety of student-centred activities. These include role-plays, small group discussions, and mock trials. Law students will receive interactive training to illustrate real life encounters of the communities when examining the law. The Students will also develop important legal, preparation, communication, and trial advocacy skills. The aim of the program is to work with schools and community groups in order to increase understanding and awareness of the law and relevant legal issues through interactive role-plays and exercises. Undergraduate law students will present the activities and conduct the scheme at participating schools and community centres. After receiving a talk on street law followed by training, the students will deliver a street law program of their own to schools and community groups. Training will be provided for undergraduate law students by the College of Law. Initially working with SOAS undergraduates, at the start of this academic year (2005/06), an introductory seminar was held at SOAS . All those students interested in working with the programme have been asked to attend a training day. The training will be undertaken by the Street Law Co-ordinators at the College of Law and comprise a number of workshops. Thereafter, students will be arranged into working groups of about six to eight individuals. Each group will be assigned a school or community group each term to take the Street Law programme to. Participating bodies will be pre-arranged by the pro bono team . The students will be required to prepare role-plays and exercises or adapt those developed by the College of Law. Support will be provided, if needed, by the College of Law. |
