The Clinic will employ an informed referral system by which lawyers and law firms that specialise in particular areas, meeting the client’s need, can be contacted straight away. The Clinic will host a list of all lawyers who specialise in crime, immigration, housing, commercial law and any other relevant area to facilitate the search process for the client. Additionally, special skills, such as language help, undertaken by certain firms will also be highlighted. In some cases, the referral may be more appropriate to another free advice legal provider within the locality, including CABx and Law Centres, who will be working closely with the Clinic and so will contribute to finding the best solution for the client. Within the Clinic, student volunteers will make preliminary notes when first meeting the client in order to facilitate lawyers to get to the crux of the issue and save time. It will be possible at times for students who assist the client at the first point of call at the Clinic to accompany the client to the relevant law firm to provide further language help, moral support, or if the client is willing, just to follow the case through for the student’s own experience. The LMC itself will inform people in the community about the service and will refer individuals who get in touch with them to contact the Clinic. The Clinic will assist in seeking to ensure that providers of initial legal advice are aware of schemes (including pro bono schemes) for in-depth advice and assistance in cases of need. |
